Title: Science serving design.
Time: 12:45

From the cognitive and psychological perspective, design is the subject of scientific deliberation on many levels. The first one is connected with the common area of interest – the human being, his/her habits, behaviour, cognitive and motor limitations. This aspect is especially important in the so-called UCD, user-centered design. For several decades, the designer’s mind, its unique mode of thinking which has creative results – referred to as design cognition – has been the subject of scientists’ interest.  Finally, the situation when a designer finds his/her inspiration in scientific findings and thinks that it might lead him/her to suggesting is more and more common. This presentation will show an example of such creative cooperation of scientists and designers which results in a new collection of furniture for children.

Title: Typocrisis. [About the need for evangelisation in the sphere of the rules of good typography]
Time: 15:45
Duration: 30 min

The main assumption is to outline the current situation in design circles, mainly in advertising agencies, in which the history and classification of typefaces and the tradition of good typography seem to be ignored.
This rather critical attitude will be balanced by the suggestion of a ‘reparation programme’.
The aim of the lecture is to make the audience aware of the need to teach various circles – not only designers but also clients – about the importance of good typography.
The lecture is aimed at students of design schools, designers, Art Directors and all creative people.
